Compatibility is a factor that shouldn’t be underestimated in any relationship, especially the one between a business and its accountancy firm.
When Ruth Moody, the managing director of experiential learning and development company Farscape Development Ltd, was not happy with her accountant, she decided to move to Whyatt Pakeman Partners after meeting Roger through networking.
“I get on very well with Roger,” Miss Moody explains, “so it is easy to ask questions and get the answers I need. I have access to someone who is an expert in his field.”
Whyatt Pakeman Partners takes care of the end of year accounts and payroll, as well as everything in between, such as forms P11d and statutory returns to Companies House.
A key indicator of the quality of Miss Moody’s relationship with Roger and Whyatt Pakeman Partners is the fact that she would be happy to recommend the firm to others.
“I have mentioned Whyatt Pakeman Partners to other business owners, as the firm has always given me sound advice in an easy to understand way. The team is very friendly and provides a safe pair of hands.”
When Bristol Finance & Credit Services Limited’s original accountant unfortunately passed away, the people who bought the practice were disastrous, leaving the family-owned finance company seeking a new accountancy provider.
“Sandy, who worked with our original accountant, was now at Whyatt Pakeman,” explains managing director Phil King, “so we chose to work with them”.
Whyatt Pakeman takes care of the company’s annual accounts and corporate tax returns, as well as assisting the directors with their personal tax returns and planning considerations.
“I like the relationship we have with Whyatt Pakeman,” says Mr King. “They are very approachable and do not conform to the image of stuffy accountants – just nice, friendly, down-to-earth people to work with.
“For what we want them to do, Whyatt Pakeman fits the bill perfectly. The team does what we want, when we want, to an appropriate timescale. While they will get in touch if there are any legislative changes to ensure that we are complying, mostly they leave us to ourselves.
“Nevertheless, they do the back up side of things well. We know when our National Insurance contributions and directors’ taxes need to be paid, as Whyatt Pakeman will write to us in good time to say this amount is due on this date.
“Therefore, there is no danger of us missing any deadlines. I have absolute confidence that we will not get into trouble with the tax office, and that is because of the way Whyatt Pakeman handles our affairs.”
In fact, as Mr King has no complaints whatsoever about Whyatt Pakeman, he has been happy to recommend the firm to friends at his Rotary Club who are looking for a new accountant.
Andrew Morgan is the clerk to the trustees at All Saints Clifton Endowments, an independent trust which can make donations to All Saints church.
Whyatt Pakeman has acted as the trust’s accountants for 30 years or so, and certainly before Mr Morgan took over the post. Such loyalty has been inspired by the fact that the trust is “very satisfied with the service provided and the competitive fees”, so there has never been a reason to change.
In addition to taking care of the accounts and submitting them to the Charity Commission, Whyatt Pakeman has advised the trust on how to run its affairs and what it needs to do to satisfy the Charity Commission.
“Whyatt Pakeman acts in more than an accountancy role,” says Mr Morgan. “The firm has acted for us for some considerable time, and has built up a good knowledge of our affairs. The team know the history of the trust and what we have been involved with.
“I have confidence that the advice given is correct, so I would be happy to recommend the firm to others. I am a satisfied customer myself, and the location of Whyatt Pakeman’s offices is suitable for a lot of people.”
